The thrift store that feeds people — Poverello's shop has funded HIV/AIDS food and wellness programs since 1987.
The Poverello Center’s thrift store is shopping with a conscience attached: founded in 1987 by Father Bill Collins to feed people living with HIV/AIDS, Poverello has run its Wilton Manors shop since 2010, and every rack of shirts and shelf of housewares funds the food pantry and wellness programs that remain a lifeline for the community.
As a thrift store it holds its own — furniture, clothes, kitchenware, and the occasional genuine find, restocked constantly by a town that donates generously. Alongside Out of the Closet up the road, it makes Wilton Manors a two-stop thrift circuit where the money does measurable good.
